I recently received a MB with the installation CDs that contain ilife'08. I was wondering if I can do a complete install using the MB CDs on my MBP SR or if there is some type of protection?

TIA

You probably can but it's illegal to use the single license across two machines.

If you are going down that route you might as well download it because it's just as illegal.

Or you could do the legal route and buy a copy of iLife. It isn't that expensive, and if you think it is then don't upgrade.

Isn't that illegal? The discs that came with your MB are backups for the software on your MB. If you had say a family pack with multiple licenses, this would be allowed, but what you describe would be using one license on many computers, which is not allowed.

Edit: Ah. TBi beat me to the button

So what you two are saying is that I would be sued by Apple for installing my non pirated paid for copy of ilife'08 on another machine? LOL, that would be a first I think and not a very smart move in terms of PR.
But my question has not been answered, can anyone confirm that there is no lock to installing on another machine?

i dont think a mb cd has the proper drivers to power a sr mbp. you could, but i doubt you'd love it.

if you dont want to buy ilife and you're so interested in the update, why not *cough* ilife? oops, looks like some pirates invaded my throat there.

Think that's correct, the drivers on the restore dvd are specific to the machine you buy it with, you could always buy a mbp 2 disc restore dvd off ebay, quite cheap, but you have to make sure its one with ilife 08 or youll get 06....

I know that you can't use your MB restore disks to reinstall Tiger on the MBP, but I'm not so sure that the iLife has locks on it. Having said that, if you were to remove iLife '08 from the MB (and as a result, you still have the license, but you're not using it on multiple machines), you might be able to use pacifist to extract iLife for use on the MBP.

Well, it seems that ilife has locks, it has a separate installer program on the CD, which, when launched on the MBP, gives me a message that it cannot launch on this computer.
I guess that is a dead end!
