So. I have had a Dell 20" connected to Macbook for sometime now. I disconnect it maybe 3-5 times a week.

So last night it just stopped working. When I disconnect the display, it actually comes on (green light) and says no DVI. As soon as I plug it in, it goes into power save.

So I looked at the connections. The adapter seems fine, but on my Macbook in the 4th row of pins (from the top) There are two pins missing, the second and fourth moving from the side closest to the firewire port.

Can anyone tell me if this normally like this? On Apples picture here: http://www.apple.com/macbook/design.html, it looks like all the pins are there.

I am super gentle when removing the adapter. But meh. Thanks for the help.

On my MacBook it's the 2nd and 4th from the right missing in the 3rd row of pins. Assuming that's just a mistype/miscount on your part, I don't think you're missing any pins. I'm not sure what could be causing your problem though.
