MB+External Screen = More RAM ?

Recently acquired a new MB 2.16 with 1GB Ram .Have had absolutely no issues with it since day one .Bought a new 22" monitor so I could plug the MB into and enjoy the Mac experience on a larger scale .It is fine for surfing the net, mail ,word processing etc .but when it comes to adding in some apps such as garageband it slows right down, or in garagebands case refuses to open at all . I understand that the graphics chip ( or lack of ) is probably the reason for this but would bumping the Ram make any difference performance wise?


PS this is using the external screen as the primary display .MB is closed. If that makes any difference.

Definately go for the 2GB upgrade.

Yup - adding more RAM will bring down the barrier that causes your computer to operate slower than its maximum capability.

Graphics chip memory actually has nothing to do with the slow down. The bottleneck is in your 1Gb of system RAM. Bump that up and you'll see a definite performance increase. The only time the graphics chip will really come into play is if you're doing any gaming.
