Just started using my MacBook without my 23" ACD (was using it as the main display with MB in clamshell), and it seems like the system is faster, and snappier. Now I did restart earlier today, which always improves things, but... apps launch faster, Parallels runs smoother, etc. Am I imagining things? It would seem to make sense since the MacBook doesn't have a dedicated graphics card to power an external display.

Since the macbook has onboard graphics it cuts of the ram so without the 2nd display more ram is going to the applications and is not being used to drive the display.

i think youre confusing clamshell mode with dual display mode.

i have a 2.0mbp with 2gb of ram and havent noticed such a thing but i wouldnt doubt that its the case with a macbook and that integrated gpu they got in there.
