MB not going to sleep when battery goes empty

My macbook has just come back from service, they have changed the motherboard. I am pretty sure that before this the machine was going into sleep at the very end of the battery cycle, when the battery was totally depleted (some minutes after the 10 minutes left message was shown), but not anymore.

Now it just turns itself off. Not only everything that was going on on that session is lost but it the fact that the machine is abruptly turning itself off just gives me the creeps as OSX has not the possibility to close everything in a normal fashion.

Anyone with a clue about what can be wrong and how to fix this? It will be really appreciated.

Thanks for the links. I am just finished doing both and the thing is still not sleeping, it smply just dies cold at the end.

Jeez! It is unbelievable. This computer has been 2 times into service this year and everytime it comes back with a new illness

I really don't know what the Apple technicians are thinking. I am really frustrated at the moment.

I cannot Confirm what is Proper, or obviously What yours Used to Do... However, my Old 1.83GHz and New 2.4 SR MBP both gave a warning about 10 mins b4 "the Gig was UP!!" That is supposed to give YOU TIME to put it to Save Programs and then Put it to Sleep so you can change a Battery or Charge it... at least I thought so!! I also learned that you should not push the 10 minutes as 7-8 mins is more likely sometimes!!

If I am wrong, I hope a smarter person will Confirm/ Deny what APPLE wants us to be doing with the "10 Minute Warning" ....

The new Intel Macs go to sleep just before the battery dies. At this stage the battery has still power to maintain the machine in the sleep stage without losing the memory contents. When the battery power is really nearing zero the machine goes from sleep state into deep sleep where the contents of the ram are transferred to hard disk. The machine can stay like this for an unlimited period of time. When you apply power and turn it on OSX returns where you left and you don't lose anything.

In the PC world these 2 states are called:
PC -> Mac:
Stand By -> Sleep
Hibernation -> Deep Sleep.

I think that the trigger that sends the machine to sleep at the end of the battery cycle is screwed in my mac. I hope this is a software issue. I am reinstalling OSX on some hours. I will also try to let the battery die while I am on XP to see if the trigger works ok there and the machine goes into hibernation.

I will report back when my tests are finished. If reinstalling doesnt fix the issue this mabokk is going again into service. This has to be a record!
