I am an happy user of a Mb Pro M1.

I don't use it for work so it is mainly for basic stuff such as browsing, word/xls, gaming.

I also have a Apple Pro Display XDR (which I had the luck to buy at a super discounted price) which I litterally love.

Being a techie since the early 90s I always like to test Apple products every time something interest comes to the market (and I find a good offer).

I have being offered to buy a MB Pro 16" Base Model (M1 Pro, 16gb, 512gb) a $1k less than its retail price and it is in like new conditions (the owner has to move his business to Windows laptops).

I know the question may sound a bit odd, but would you reccommend buying it? And if so, would you keep it both or sell the MB Pro 13"?

The thing is that my iPad Pro 11" is de facto replacing my Mb Pro 13" in the daily usage or when travelling, therefore I wonder if the 16" would be better. I had the intel 15" for years, I am just not 100% convinced of the weight and form factor of the new model.

Apologies if I bothered you and thanks for the advice!

At $1000 off that's a pretty safe buy since you could always get your money back by selling it if you don't like it. It is a big machine though compared to the 13" but I'm sure you heard.

As for keeping the 13", it depends on your financial situation. I wouldn't sell it until you are happy with the 16". I would personally rather have a Macbook and iPad over two Macbooks.

Knowing it's case specific - considering I own an Apple Pro XDR Display would you go for:

- iPad Pro 11" + Macbook Pro M1 13"
or
- iPad Pro 11" + Macbook Pro M1 Pro 16"?

I like the MB Pro 13" a lot but I am starting to think that the iPad 11" is a good replacement for normal usage

It is always more important to get what you want, and not get something just because it is a good deal. I've wasted a lot of money on "good deals."

if you mostly use the 13" at home hooked up to the monitor, then keep what you have. The 16" is a great screen if its your only screen and if you use it mainly in home and office. its kinda too heavy and big for travel. I put my 16" under the 27" apple display and I have to put the monitor on top of MacBook Box for now because 16" screen is higher. I also use an iPad mini on the go for now. If Apple released a 12" 2lb MacBook and the 27" display at the same time as the 16" MBP, I probably would have bough the 12" MacBook and the display for a well rounded solution. But now that I have the 16" I do have a deeper connection to it. I really enjoy the screen.

Personally I always saw the 13" pro as a bulky jack of all trades master of none. The 16" screen in wonderful but Its more suitable if you like to change positions around the house (couch, desk) and you still get a good size display but its not as comfortable in one position as a MacBook Air.

$1000 off is a great price.

it really depends how you use your stuff. Knowing myself, id also get the 2lb MacBook when it comes out because I don't like using iPads.

Fully agree on the MB12" + Display option (I actually had a 12" before the M1 13")

One of the reasons why I am thinking about the 16" is because I do like changing positions around the house, from desk to couch/bed

Then get the 16" at 1000 off. I didnt want a 16" again but when I compared 16 to 14", the 14" was too small and I get all day battery on my 16. my theory on this is if you use the laptop mainly at home than get the big one. If you go mainly mobile, get the smallest thing apple offers. the Air is too big and heavy in my opinion. I really want the 12 inch back for travel. After years of buying all these devices, my preference is to have dedicated devices for specific use. the 12" sucked for editing photos for work and to look through large excel files and needed big monitor for that. It was wonderful for reading, filling out documents and taking notes.

I'll also add that im at 102 battery cycles and battery life is still 100%. Not sure if this is incorrect or if new batteries are special but ill keep this MacBook for years
