Hello all I use my 2014 15” MB pro (has double video card, good processor and fast ssd) and after the stupid update yesterday (I use Catalina still and Safari updated too) my laptop won’t start. The fans blow off big time and screen is dark grey. It powered up a couple of times when off charger but when I plug it and the fans go off big time. Tried reseting Pram and Smc but now it won’t even start. I don’t know what to do. Is apple liable for this???

After restarting
can you hold the macbook pro under a light source to see if the screen has a faint image of anything?

It feels like it does because sometimes after disconnecting and connecting to power closing and opening the screens it powers up to apple logo (no chime) and feels like the screen is very dark gray

this happened to me in 2019 after a Catalina update.
I reinstalled Mojave from a time machine back up and everything worked fine.
since you don't have one.
turn off your MacBook pro.
Turn on while pressing the option key
this will lead you 4 options
chose the one that fists your needs.

hopefully you can get to this point.
if you still can't se your screen, try resting in safe mode.

i hope this helped.

So I did. First time the first option showed up fro a brief time then I connected to power and my screen went from dark grey to completely black. Since I tried this with and without power and it just wont turn on

Just to check, do you know what condition your battery is in? Sometimes a bad battery can cause the machine not to start.

If you can get to an Apple Store, they can bypass your OS to diagnose it.

So what happened I took it to iFix Authorized Apple Store and it turned out to be motherboard - "completely coincidentally, after the latest OS update, your MB has died".....

OP:
Unless you can get a new motherboard cheap, probably not worth fixing...

Some shops won't really diagnose motherboard issues, but some can repair some simple problems. Might be worth checking to see if such a shop is in your area, might be willing to diagnose the problem for a small fee.

You might look for used options of the same model. I have one of these and I'd guess that the clearing price would be about $300-$350.

There is a dude with a Mac repair shop in New York City that repairs Macs. His name is Louis Rossmann. I sent him my 2013 MacBook Air that suffered MB damage from a spilled drink, he fixed it, cheap. My son is still using the laptop today. You mail him your laptop, he diagnoses the issue and tells you what it will cost to fix. If too expensive, or what, he mails it back to you. Here is his link, he comes very highly recommended. His shop repairs to the component level, so he can probably fix your motherboard: https://www.rossmanngroup.com
