It went in on the 8th of june for service and according to the site is pending return but it has since the 21st. I called the other day and they said that its in the engineering department being specially serviced and that it should be done, later that day, and on its way. I called this morning and they said that it failed some test, so they are having specialists work on it. Im going out of town on the 30 and i NEED a freakin computer by then. Aren't I qualified to get a brand new macbook after its been in repair for a certain amount of time?

No, you don't get a new computer because you're leaving town.

Apple warranty doesn't provide for rentals, or loss of use, or any incidental or consequential damages around a breakdown and repair.

Your options are to hope like #=!! its ready, or rent a machine, or borrow one.
There is a faint chance that Apple will reimbourse you for a rental, because something went wrong in the repair process, but that would be on an exception basis.

Can you seriously rent a computer let alone a mac?

Yes.
Information available through the Yellow Pages - an incredible invention, considering it predates the Mac by decades.

See my previous post.
Sorry, Steve Jobs is not concerned whether the repair on an individual MacBook takes an extra week. Get a grip folks.

Y'all are suffering from a lack of perspective. three weeks for a warranty repair is NOTHING (edit - no G@&&@#!^, it;s only two weeks) . It is well within the norms. 9 months on my coffee machine, for example. 6 months on my buddy's Volkswagen. 3 months for the MR member in Japan with the brand new MBPro. You wanna get p!$$=d over something, start there. If your machine is less than (what's the number, 14 days?) old or was dead on arrival, you can go for an exchange or a return, if it wasnt a CTO machine. If it breaks down three times in succession, Apple will consider a replacement. Otherwise, you get warranty repair just like everybody else.

It sucks that the OP may be leaving before the repair is done. That's circumstantial, however. The machine IS being repaired, and the technicians are not sending it back before it works properly. Consider the alternative...

I am on the line that if a repair takes 3 weeks to do (21 day) it taken to long and it is time for a new computer. It is reducilous to expect something on warrenty repairs. Besides it they been workign on it for 3 weeks it would of just been cheaper to replace the computer than it would be to pay the labor in fixing it. If something is back log for 3 weeks then you need to higher more staff. I think 3 days should really be the most something is left on waiting to get started on.

but by 3 weeks of it being in the shop for warrenty work means it is time for a new one to be handed over.
