MB shuts down at 29% battery

Another new issue with my Blackbook.

Several times in the last week it's decided to shut itself off when I had about 29% battery. Highly annoying for a fella like me who lives on a sailboat with limited power in the first place.

When it happens, the battery indicator light on the batt itself blinks rapidly (0% charge). Sometimes when I plug it back in to power and let it sit a minute or two, it turns back on saying I have 30% battery.

Yes, I reset the PMU already.

My refurb Core Duo MBP did the same thing to me the first day I got it. It hasn't happened since though.

You may want to do a recondition on the battery.

Let it run down until it turns itself off. Plug in some USB devices, like a cooling pad and mouse (anything that you can tell when it's powered). Let it sit like this until the devices are dead, and the battery wont even blink anymore. Then charge it (powered off) overnight.

Also, reset your SMC. (Remove A/C and battery, press and hold the power button for 15~30 seconds)

My TiBook (well, my wife's TiBook, now that my MBP came!) has been doing that for the past 6 months, only it does it at about 40%! "Coconut Battery" shows that the battery has 92% original capacity, I've tried "reconditioning" the battery numberous times, resetting the Power Manager, all to no avail. Since she'll hardly ever use it on battery, it's not worth buying a new one, but I'd like to "fix it" if there's one to be had!

I'm going to request a new battery from Apple on Monday.

Same problem here, though mine was a good bit lower. Still didn't safe sleep when it got low or anything, just shut off. I was told to get a new battery (haven't yet) and possibly have the power management board replaced. I'd call Apple (if you've got telephone support) or just take it in to the closest Apple store or repair center.

No telephone support as I don't have AppleCare and it's over 90 days. I've had mine for around 7 months (since the first MacBook was released, got this puppy immediately).

I'll have to swing by an Apple shop then, bit of a hassle but I'm hoping it will be painless to ask for a new battery/won't have to prove that it is really failing by waiting for it to drain? I'm not lying about the problem so they are free to test it under the same conditions.
