Try holding the option key when starting (called alt sometimes)

Have you recently dropped your machine? Or damaged it in any way?

Apple will replace/fix it unless it is clearly your fault

Don't Panic! I know EXACTLY what has happened!

You were half way through installing windows weren't you?

Start the machine up, and almost straight away, press and hold the mouse clicker. This should eject the windows disk. Then restart and all should be well :)

I saw this over the week funnily enough...

Here's what I would try.
Insert Mac OS X instal disk 1 and restart
after initial chime hold down "c" key until it gets to the install screen
choose english as the language and then go to the top white bar and under utilities (I think) go to disk utility
under disk utility go to Macintosh HD (unless you renamed it) and click repair disk
After that's done see if you can boot

if that fails go through the rest of the instal sequence until you get to archive and install and do that. That will save all your data and reinstall Mac OS X (you will have to reinstall all the updates using software update though)

you might want to change the thread title so if people have a similar problem, they can search.

people who have problems installing windows on their macbooks aren't likely to search "OMFG Help!" but more words like macbook windows, startup, boot disk...

I don't know why but I found this thread hilarious. But I would have done the same...had no problems installing Windows though. Glad everything is fine now.

im having immense problems installing Windows. I tried a pirated copy and then it either froze or my keyboard stopped working. Then i tried a legit version and even that didn't work.

When I tried to install Windows, it just BSODed every time I booted into it

Great Mac this is turning out to be. Think I'll get a G3 iBook, my G3 iMac is miles better than my MBP...

Bad boy! ;)

Now that we got that out of the way, your first mistake was using a pirated copy.

The problem is that there is residual information stored in the boot area of the Windows partition. You must get rid of this to have a successful install.

I think that the easiest way to proceed is this:
- Run Boot Camp again and remove the partition.
- Run Disk Utility and erase free space.
- Run Boot Camp and create your Windows partition.
- Install using legitimate copy of Windows.

Good luck! :)

Is this a Bootcamp issue? I installed Windows XP on my girlfriends MBP using Parallels and everything went remarkably smoothly - i was impressed! (with parallels. not windows.)
I hope you guys get it sorted.

Did you use a version of windows that had Service pack 2 built in? If not, pm me and I'll give you a link to download that garbage.

Bad boy! ;)

ok i just tried the steps above and it still doesn't work. After i install the legit copy of Windows XP, it starts up i guess and i get a black screen that says

Windows Installation Boot Menu
[A] Restore Wizard (recommended)
Manual Windows Installation

Choose an option and press [Enter]: _

and i'm trying with all of God's might to press "B" and nothing simply shows up. I don't know if the keyboard is locked or if it froze. FYI that underscore after "[Enter]:" is blinking so i dont think it froze.... of course i am most probably wrong. ANY IDEAS?! OMG WTF!!

Are you trying to install Windows XP SP2?

Also, did you do all the steps above to include erasing the free space by using Disk Utility?
