My 11" MBA got a strange behaviour with the trackpad used to click, once out of two it won't do anything with a click but would rather require another click to execute the command.

The computer runs HighSierra and the trackpad settings are by default, what might cause this behaviour?

Grazie

It could be caused by a swollen battery under the track pad. It may be time to replace the battery.

I’m seconding this. The battery starts to swell and expand and actually starts to push the trackpad and keys up out of the case. This has happened to me with my 2011 11” MBA and I’m debating fixing it or getting a new laptop.
