MBA 11inc - Trackpad Not Working

Hi All

I bought my MBA 11 inch on Saturday. This afternoon when I opened it up to use, the trackpad is not working on the right hand bottom. No click at all. I checked all my settings, rebooted..no joy.

Anybody else with this issue?

How embarrassing

Today I took my macbook air to the apple reseller shop to take a look at it.
I unboxed it, booted it up, and could not replicate the problem. Very embarrassing!! The trackpad was working fine and clicking properly. Im not quite sure what went on here, but all seems to be fine now.

I had a nice chat to the repair man and he said to try to avoid using the 'click' functions of the trackpad and use the 'tap' function instead. He said that the click function of the trackpad had a life of about 20,000 clicks before it starts to have issues.

So he gave me a bit of a tutorial of the swiping and taping techniques and off I went.

All a very interesting experience for a new macbook air owner like me!

This happens to me sometimes with the 2008 MBP's trackpad, when my hands have too much moisture on them (clammy hands). Was this the case for you?

In my case the resolution was the same - to let the trackpad time off to dry before using it, or to keep my hands and fingers dry.

Oh that most definitely might have been the case, the last time I used it was after a shower and although I was dry, would probably still have had moisture on my hands!

I'd say keep an eye on it. I had to exchange one Macbook Air because the escape key had the opposite problem, I barely had to touch it for input to register. If you're talking about the physical clicking down mechanism not registering, there could have been something under it, and it is certainly not easy to get things out of these new units. Just be aware, and if it happens again, don't feel afraid to bring it back!
