I purchased a 13" macbook air ultimate,
the boot times out of the box were amazing something like 7-10 seconds

after running updates and installing a few apps (photoshop, office, etc), the time shave increased to 25-30 seconds,
Is there something along the lines of msconfig i should run?

I have run onyx to clear the cache however no change,
should boot times increase to almost 3 times as slow just from updates and a few programs most users claim sub 15 second boot times
what can I do to improve my boot times
thanks

yea that's what I use most of the time but if the performance of booting degrades that quick and inst on par with other units there may be a problem with mine so i might want to swap it out

What about using the SLEEP feature instead of Shutting Down?

Can't be 7-10 sec, in another thread we made a conclusion that the boot time is around 15 sec. Nobody had any evidence about >10sec boot time.

You could try repairing permissions with Disk Utility and SMC and PRAM resets but to be honest, just live with it. 25 sec is still awesome. Or have you even measured it or is it just a guess?

i measured both before and after and i was getting 7-10 seconds
and now around 25-30 it varies, which leads me to believe there are certain start up items that need be disabled but my list shows none

would the resets do anything or will it probably just return to 25-30 seconds anyway?
And do the resets affect anything else like my settings etc

I can't foresee what the resets will do. They are the most common troubleshooting steps to do so give them a try. Settings will not be affected. Have you installed lots of apps? Any items on Menu Bar?

And where is it slow? Loading the boot screen? Log in? Loading the desktop?

okay I will give it a try at home how do i do it?

and what do you mean my menu bar the dock thing on the bottom sorry this is my first mac,

and i would say the majority of the boot time is during the gray screen with an apple and little moving circle on it

SMC reset
PRAM reset

Disk Utility can be found from Applications > Utilities

Menu Bar is the grey bar on the top of the screen. Some apps run there and Menu Bar apps usually launch when logged in.

Go into System Preferences and make sure your Mac disk is highlighted for startup; sometimes after installing programs, this preference gets de-selected and neither the Mac disk nor the network startup is selected.

yea PRAM is usually the culprit.

It is funny, I'm not sure why but tonight my MBA went into the realm of ~30s boots. I checked both syspref for startup disk and did a PRAM reset - no luck - then did a SMC reset and voila back to under 15s. Weird.

odd indeed why the boot times cannt stay relatively constant
