MBA 13 i7 1.8 256HD Heat

All so ive been trying to get a good feel for temps on the MBA 13 inch with an i7 1.8 cpu. Does anyone have a good test that can set my mind at ease?

Biggest thing to me is putting it on my lap doing basic things like skype or netflicks viewing..

Has anyone tried putting this on their lap? Got a temp gauge to measure the stats of various areas?

Ok maybe not a gauge but can anyone run handbrake and keep it on your lap in the direct sun? Something crazy like this?

Most reviews said 85F but I see lots of CPU temps WAY above that..

I processed all my iPhoto images into iPad format, albeit indoors and on my lap, and the temps never went hire than 99F.

External temp. I'd have to look again for the CPU temp (right now I'm making a new Time Machine over the network, so in about 6 hours I can help ya with that )

Thanks for the update.. Would you say it bothered you keeping it on your lap? Jeans or shorts?

Yeah I hated my first couple of syncs too. When I added WoW it took even longer for just about each day. Sucked!

ok so I just tested my gaming laptop and the heat coming out of it without paying a game is 106F or 41C. This isnt bad at all. Guess im just wondering what CPU temp that is now.

I was running a fairly big compile on my 11" Ultimate earlier and the highest CPU temperature was 91C with the enclosure getting to 38C. It was warm to the touch, but not painful.

Guess thats the best I can ask for.. Really thought these would be a lot less hot.

I was wearing slacks (so a little thinner than jeans) and it didn't feel hot on my skin, nor did I feel the fan, so I'm very, very pleased with the heat dissipation. I checked my Air (still uploading wirelessly to the time machine.... 70gig of 128 gigs.... gah) and the CPU temp is at 50c, but the computer is still cool all around, maybe 25C between the G and H key.

Also, you can't expect the Air to be that much less hot to the touch... it's got a lot to cool in not a large area. These things are modern miracles of engineering to stay as cool as they are.

Well you got a good machine. I cant mine to do that. I'm just going to exchange or go i5. The slight speed won't hinder me that much if at all.

The only difference is his processor? I got the i7 1.8 coming to me soon. Does it really make that much more heat or do you think you might have something going on with yours?

It's possible I could have a defect. However then lots of people do since they are complaining about it. I'm switching to i5. It should be here Wednesday. The speed difference is estimated at about 7-9%. Not worth it for more heat and shorter battery.
