I contacted Apple about this and they say they aren't shipping until early November. The display's are in place in the stores but no product has been delivered yet.

I just called the two NYC stores that were still open at this hour and neither had it. I'll visit one tomorrow to see if they're in at that time.

If you go there again, could you please check if the screen or trackpad has changed? And how is it in screen brightness and angle compared to the new Macbooks?

Has anyone played with the new 2.0 version of the MBA? I'm seriously considering selling my MBP and picking up the MBA. I mostly use the MBP when I'm out of the house and would like the lighter laptop. I'm wondering if they fixed some of the issues I've read about in the previous version.

I believe they'll be in store's in early November.

I have never had to heat issues that you mention with my first gen. MBA. I suppose it depends on what you'll be doing with the laptop.

I heard the same thing from one of the geniuses at our local store. I asked if he thought they would have the same heat core issues as the first generation and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said that they havent seen hardly any of that brought into the store, almost like he hadnt seen it at all. so idk. I mean im sure some ppl think they can run the space shuttle with their MBA and that must be the ones that are having so many heat problems.

Running the space shuttle was hardly the case. It might depend on when you purchased it, but the fans blowing all out was common with them all. The rest of us had issues watching videos, youtube or having couple windows open at the same time.

either way, best to wait to see the new one and knowing apple, these issues will be fixed.

The space shuttle uses laughably ancient hardware and software. I am confidant that my iPhone has more processing power and ram then the shuttle computers.

With respect to the Air, playing videos whether they are from youtube or locally stored on the hard drive is part of what is expected from any modern computer. Even a smartphone can tackle those tasks these days. To say that someone expecting the Air to handle those tasks is being unreasonable is ludicrous.

Since the newer Air has a processor making 20% less heat, I hope that it will no longer be an issue.

What I would really like to know is if they made any type of modifications to the bottom plate. I hope that they moved the vent holes further back towards the display or to the sides so I could use it on more types of surfaces. (Bed/Couch)

Did you notice any physical changes?

AND a decent GPU so the the CPU should have a lot less to do to play videos. I hope that's enough.

[If we could only squeeze in a decent heat sink we'd have real computer here.]
