I can get a 2018 256GB MBA for $1,000 U.S., or the 256GB 2019 version for $1,090 U.S.

The True Tone I will probably shut off anyway, as it doesn’t work for me when editing photos or video. Is the keyboard actually better, or is it basically the same? I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but I could be swayed! I wouldn’t even ask, but I’m starting back at school, and money will be somewhat tight.

the are basically the same except for the True Tone display and the "new material" Apple put under they keys ..

The 2018 has got a slightly more performant SSD

I got the 2018 MBA, but for only 90 bucks more I guess I would go for the 2019 MBA (provided they both got 256 Gb of storage)

1000 bucks for a discontinued MBA 2018 does not seem much of a bargain to be honest

I'd choose the 2019 model. I don't much care about True Tone either way, but I'd feel better knowing that the latest keyboard version is installed, thereby hopefully lowering the chance that it will give me problems during its lifetime. However either way you're getting a good laptop at a good price.

For an extra $90, I would absolutely go with the newer model. Doesn't seem like much of a discount going with the older model, might as well get the most recent version.

Another vote or the 2019. I don’t see a slight difference in SSD performance being very important, since it’s not a machine you’re likely to be putting a lot of load on.

And agree with @ChrisChaval that the price drop on the 2018 doesn’t seem like much of a bargain.

Good luck with it!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the advice, but I ended up in a slightly better place financially, so I bought a 2019 MBP 256GB. Thanks for the advice, sorry I didn't take it. ;)
