Hello guys,

So I have a MBA Ultimate late 2010 and im currently taking an Art IB course in which i wana stop drawing and painting canvas. I have the option to expand myself and try new things, and with my dad nikon d7000 I want to make some photography and edit it on photoshop in my MBA. So how well does it handles what im going to do in a near future?

Also, I will use photoshop not only photography, but thanks to my teachers wacom fun tablet, i will probably paint using photoshop. So again, how well does it handles this task?

And finally between editing images and creating paints, both in photoshop; Which task demands more of my machine?

MB Air is about the worst computer you could choose. Sorry but there it is, image editing is a processor, memory and RAM intensive beast. You should look at the very least getting a Mac Book Pro.

Cheers

I have the 11" Ultimate MBA and I have PhotoShop installed. The program will run but it won't run smoothly. Here's a few points of interest:

1. The start up time is longer than on a MB or another machine, I say it takes a good 20 seconds to start up and that's with everything else shut down.

2. Depending on the type of editing you're doing the process may take 3-6 seconds per process. Example would be filters take a while, but cropping does not.

3. The screen is a bit small for any real PhotoShop work.

4. Having more than 2-3 large files open really hurts the application's response to commands.

I have a desktop and another MB to perform my serious PhotoShop work, but it's nice to have it on the MBA just in case I need it. I use it maybe 1-2 a month at most for very basic editing (cropping, resizing, etc.). If you're thinking of doing intensive PhotoShop work on this MBA you may get frustrated with the slow response. It really all depends on what you plan on doing.

I have a 13in Ultimate and regularly join six or seven large images together _ it copes fine – 4Gb of memory I think is essential. No filters take an excessive time...

Just to clarify, "memory" and "RAM" are two words for the same thing.
