When watching Videos on youtube longer then 10 min my 1.6/80 MBA slows down to a crawl, its driving me bananas for $2k Canadian this thing should work like a charm.

My Ipod Touch has no problems with the same videos on Youtube.

Is there a fix yet???

Cheers
Gary

Unfortunately Flash is very badly optimised for OSX. On the touch, it plays the videos in a much better optimised h.264 format.

Are you 100% on that?

The iPod Touch and iPhone does not support Flash - YouTube provides an H.264 version when streamed to the iPod Touch and iPhone. How I wish we can turn on a switch to do the same for our Macs.

Sounds like one of your cores shutting down from overheating. Open activity monitor and see if that's happening.

One of your cores is shutting down from heat. Open Activity monitor and see if one of the core graphs has gone dark or is flashing in and out.

I had the same problem until I undervolted my CPu using coolbook.

There is an update to Flash available that really improved Youtube. Download it from macupdate.com. That + coolbook + EFI update and now the thing runs perfectly.

while Flash is badly optimized, please explain to me while a 1.66ghz machine should not run it perfectly fine.

Gary, yes, there is a fix, it's called sending your defective unit back to Apple. Also, use the search function the next time.

n0de: Is this the update you're talking about?

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4783/adobe-flash-player

I read the review and it's not very good. Mind to share what kind of improvement you're seeing with youtube?

My Air plays youtube videos just fine, but the fan does ramp up to 6200 during playback. Wonder if the flash update will help in that regard?

Thanks!

The improvement with the Flash update I noticed was no more stuttering.

Sure the reviews are bad, it's Adobe! Until they start taking Apple seriously again we will never get the same quality as the Winblows world. I agree that the Flash implementation in OSX sucks big time, but small improvements are better than nothing.

I wonder why the iPhone Youtube portal isn't opened up to OSX users? Aren't those videas re-encoded in QT?

Its perfectly true, the OS X version of Flash player is terrible. I find my fans spinning up when watching videos on youtube (although my machine doesn't slow down).

This is strange, on my 15" SR mbp 2.4Ghz model if I have youtube in full screen mode for 2+ minutes the fan will rev up pretty loud and the mba even not in full screen mode with 1 youtube video playing will rev up 6000rpm but on my new 17" penryn mbp if I even have 2-3 youtube in fullscreen the fan is barely audible.

I have NEVER experienced any problems with youtube or any other kind of video. I have the 1.8/ssd model as my main laptop, and although I have not experienced problems, I can tell you one thing...

This computer is the biggest pice of crap apple has made.

So you're not experiencing any problems, yet you drop 3000 dollars on the biggest piece of crap apple has made? Enlighten us, Captain Cannabis.
