I have been waiting for MBA release today, so far it has not happened :(......Huge disappointment.

I have been researching for all this Ultra-thin (No DVD, with SSD) laptops which can compete with MBA, in case MBA does not show up ever.

Here is the list

1) Lenovo Thinkpad X1
2) Sony Vaio Z Series
3) Samsung NP900
4) HP Envy

This is all I can think of for the moment, anything you add on to the list? :D

Take a deep breath, the MBA will show up :)

I think the Lenovo X220 is comparable on a few levels but I still prefer the MBA form factor.

True, nothing beat the MBA's Aluminium Unibody! plus the huge trackpad! :p

Only real competitor out of those 4 is Samsung series 9 and it sucks balls. I have it and it is going back.

Yeah I looked around for awhile for competitors seeing as Ive never owned a mac and wanted a pc originally and something that didn't cost so much, but after all my research I decided the MBA was the best Ultra portable laptop. Been waiting since the beginning of march.

Same.

I bought the Lenovo X220 from Costco online and even though it is a very nice piece of work, I still greatly prefer handling the MBA. The X220 short wrist wrest makes it uncomfortable to type on. The MBA 13, on the other hand, is perfect and I'm looking forward to using it. The MBA 11 is nice but again the wrist wrests are too short for my big hands.

I compared a lot of other 13ish sized laptops and the MBA is a clear choice for me.

The Sony Vaio Z is actually not a bad Windows laptop. You will want to take the time to remove the junk that Sony installs on it.

New Z is a MBP in MBA body.
Neat machine with Lightpeak (copper/usb) interface GPU and Optical drive, HD display option, 6gb SSD RAID, carbonfiber/alu body.

BUT pricing is just outrageous!

Wow that LG looks awesome, how did they manage to use an Nvidia GPU with the icore 7 processor thought they couldnt do that, if it is possible y wouldnt apple

Yeah, the pricing is insane, but it brings a whole new element to the game with the egpu dock.

While this is a stretch, I wonder if Apple is watching Sony and maybe the delay in the mba is to develop an external dock to compete against the Z?

I'm actually not impressed by many of the competitors. They tend to have drawbacks when it comes to this or that. Or their aesthetics suck. Or their touchpads or bad. Or their screens are overly generic.

I've decided I'll definitely be getting an Air, though I'm slightly considering a 13.3" Pro... almost 100% on the Air though.

The Sony VAIO 13.3" Intel Core i5-2410M Laptop (VPCSB11FXB) (I copied and pasted that from Futureshop's website) was one that I was considering... since it has a 6490 graphics card in it... and its appearance is top-notch... and the price is $1000 flat... but I've decided I'm definitely going Apple this time around. I've never given an Apple computer a chance before for my own reasons... but now the price-point and the quality match up to my lifestyle and work perfectly for me.

Former Z owner... it's a beastly laptop. Best Windows one in my opinion.

But, only if you can afford it. It's actually too much power for my use, which is why I may go for an MBA some day (sold my 2009 Z for an iMac and currently have an iPad 2).

Alienware m11x is the powerhouse for 11''; with the SSD option, it's only a couple hundred more than the current maxed MBAs, and it has 256gigs of memory and 8 gigs RAM as well as a dedicated video card. The downsides are that it runs Windows, weighs a bit for 11" (four pounds), and has a gigantic alien head on the case.

Another good one for portability (as long as we're on the VAIO topic) is the Y-series. You'd have to put in an SSD yourself, but for a $549 cost for the computer I may not mind doing that, and according to reviews it's pretty easy to poke around this model.

Big, big kudos for Sony for going with the AMD instead of the ULV i3 for the unit to avoid forcing their customers to accept the low-quality Intel video card as their only option.
