Okay, so my 13" ultimate MBA just got delivered and just started it up for the first time. It seems as if the top part is very hot (near the black hinge) and I haven't done anything to it yet, just started up. Is this normal? I'm scared something fried and this is my first mac so... a little jumpy :p

That's where the processor aka akin to a cars engine bay. Yes it's gonna be warm.

Thanks, but it seems warmer than what most other MBA users are saying here: no heat at all. Furthermore, I wasn't running any apps at all! (just booted comp) and it seemed well, super hot.

Anyone else got feedback on their MBA's heat at the top of the keyboard (just below the black hinge)?

My 11in was warm too -- when I was charging it, streaming a video and copying about 100GB of files simultaneously. With each successive laptop I've gotten (2008 15in MBP > 2010 unibody 13in MBP > MBA) they seem to run a little cooler, but there's still heat generated.
