Just wondering whether people are actually using the new multi-touch features like zoom, swipe, and rotate, or if it is just a gimmick. I am not asking about the old features (i.e. right-click).

I often wonder the same thing. If I were to own a laptop with those features I cant see me using it, especially when I'm at home and using a bt mouse.
I used it the first day to test it out.
After that, the only times I have used it is when my 2nd finger unintentionally hits the track pad and makes it zoom in
(which is really annoying)
So no, I haven't had a need for it yet.

I use them, and I will use them more when apple updates Safari to provide real pinch zooming. Firefox 3 beta zooms the whole page, a la safari on iPhone. Firefox 3 won't do this with pinching, and I don't want to use it anyway, I like Safari.
i use pinch to zoom in quicktime player for full screen, and in finder in cover flow and icon view to get a better idea of sizes. MUCH quicker than Command + J and changing icon size obviously.
3 finger swipe? Not so much, i forget it's there and go and click the back buttons. That's the main reason i don't use all the features, i keep forgetting they're there.

I would like to be able to make the three-finger-swipe swap tabs in safari, more than forwards and back, for the way i browse. (going to a site, opening anything interesting in a tab)

Not a whole lot. I sometimes remember they're there but otherwise I use the keyboard short cuts as they require less effort.

lol same. I hardly ever click on links anymore. Sometimes I have up to 20 tabs open at a time (especially when browsing these interesting forums hehe)
I tend to use the mouse at home and I forget about the multi-touch features; once in a while I'll remember and then use the zoom one or sometimes the scroll, but not too often. I'm more likely to use the touch pad when away from home and when I don't have a mouse available.

I find myself using swipe a lot more than I thought I would. I think it just takes a little getting used to new gestures, and once you do you find yourself using them more and more.
The only thing I'd like is for it to be more implemented consistently throughout Mac OSX. I try to swipe many things I would like to move to the next one, and it doesn't (for example photos in Photo Booth, widgets in the widget list, highlighted items in the finder and so on.).
Also other areas - like why does pinch resize finder coverflow, but not itunes coverflow?

I use the three finger swipe religiously. It's so natural. I actually remember trying that gesture (with two fingers) before multi-touch to go back a page with no luck. It feels like it should have always been there.

Love zooming in and out. Makes for reading fine print a breeze. And for ogling pics and stuff.

And yes, I'm ashamed to admit that the three-finger forward/backward has got me trying to be a full Safari convert, but I ono, I still really miss Camino.

Firefox 3 Beta 4 + Multi-clutch - works like a dream.Plus Firefox doesn't support them.
I've been working on a Dell laptop for a lot of today and kept going for the multi-touch stuff. Don't use rotate much though but all the others are pretty useful.

to take full advantage of the new trackpad features one must use the program MultiClutch to enable customization of gestures throughout mac programs. It would be even better if Apple incorporated this technology into the operating system itself...but i who knows if that will ever happen.

I was using it a lot when I was using Safari. However I have switch to FireFox because the compatibility is so much better with DeviantART, and thus multi-touch does not in it now.
I switched from Firefox to safari... I use the 3 finger swipe all the time, but that's really the only multi-touch gesture I use.
I spend a fair bit of time working with PDFs, and have really gotten used to using all of the gestures on the trackpad. I've got my MBP on an iCurve and use a mouse and bluetooth keyboard, but sometimes I'll still reach up to use gestures on the trackpad.
It's really nice having such an intuitive means of moving the cursor, zooming, scrolling and turning pages. Much faster than any keyboard+mouse combination.

i use FF3 beta 4 & Multiclutch.
uses multitouch most of the time. 3 finger swipe for navigation back and forward and zoom in zoom out to close tabs. That is by far the most important function necessary.
