MBA Refurbs!

...hours after I order a new one from Amazon thinkng it would be a while before Apple gets a 4GB/256GB one in. Oh well.
 
I ordered a base 11" and received it today. The fan kept on making a clicking noise...it almost sounded like there was a hard drive in it. I'm going to return the unit and get my money back. Good luck everyone with the Refurbs...this was my first time to try it out. :(

:eek: Why not take it to the Apple store and have it looked at?

I've only heard good things about Apple refurbs. Maybe there are one or two bad experiences every once in a while, but that can be said about new ones too..

It's covered by warranty. Take it back and they'll repair or replace it.

I find they're very useful. I'd rather post links to reputable sources than ask a poster to simply take my word for something.

I didn't really need the MBA, I already have an iMac 27" as well as an iPad. I just started back in college again and "need" a laptop to do research and stuff at the library...so i might pick up the 128 GB version in a few weeks...

I'm not saying Apple refurb is bad...all I hear is mainly good. Just stinks my only experience wasn't great.
 
Grrr...

My wife wants an 11.6 MBA. I was going to give her mine and get an Ultimate 11.6 refurb...when my tax refund arrives. Oh well. Guess I'll have to keep watching and get one the first time they appear after the $$$ gets here.
 
Nice. The supply seems to be pretty regular now. There is definitely an advantage for those of you who don't have to be first. 3.5 months wait and you can get it for 15% off!

I was about to post a thread about this but I'll just add my question here. :)

I'm thinking seriously about getting the tricked out 11" refurb that's got the 1.6GHz processor upgrade, 4GB RAM, and 128GB drive ($1189). My question is, is this a good deal/better deal than the model with just the 128GB drive ($1019)?

I've got to have the 128GB, just don't think I can live inside of 64GB, even with an external drive for lesser-used stuff. But I'm not completely sure I need the extra RAM/processor upgrade. I mainly need a secondary mobile system to accompany my iMac. Most of the heavy work will go on there, but I have a feeling that the Air will be used more because of its portability.

Unfortunately you can only answer this question. However. I usually keep my machines for years and beyond. I keep my laptop for 4-5 years before I replace them. 64GB storage is yes. Very small. If you are going to browse web and use it for work document, it will work. Rest? No.

64GB is what's inside. After you install, Mac OS 10.6, it will be like 48 GB.
Yea? 48GB? Yea... that's not a lot. That's nothing.

To answer your 2nd question, I do not recommend 2GB ram. No one knows what MAC OS lion requirement will be.

2GB may work now, but it won't with Mac OS lion with all of those iPad features.

Point. That makes up my mind. The 128GB was non-negotiable, I was just curious about a recommendation for the RAM... something else I probably already knew, just needed a little extra convincing that it's worth my money.

If you can afford it, I'd go with the 4GB system. Yes, the use of the SSD makes page outs quicker, but more RAM is still better. Plus, you get the slightly faster CPU.

Just give you a tip, I just called apple and got discount on refurbished unit.
For instance.

1399 dollars gets you New MBA 11.6 with 1.6 GHZ/4GB/128GB SSD

Apple store has 11.6 MBA (1.6/4GB/128 SSD) refurbished for 1189 dollars.

I called apple and ask for discount and they gave it to me for 1060 dollars. After tax 6%, it was 1123.60 dollars.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

I have no proof of this yet since I just placed an order like 5 min ago and I have been on the phone with the rep for 1 hour.

Of course, I don't know until I see the receipt because the rep could have been fooling with me.

Update: Well... Well...
The rep charged me 1123. 60 dollars for my 11.6 MBA. So, I got about 25% off from full price. Saved me about 330 dollars. Not bad. Not bad at all.

GIVE IT TO ME NOW FEDEX! ROAR!

Yep, it went thru. My order has been updated to lower price. I guess they were able to fix it right away because it did not even ship yet.

Now, if uncle Steve can make this shipping to next air...

Oh yeah, like when I bought a baseball bat at Big 5 and since they manually punch in the price, they made a mistake and I walked out only paying 5 dollars for the bat.

I can't imagine Lion will require more then 2GB of RAM. Apple would be cutting off a huge chunk of their audience who bought Macbooks/Airs etc. (especially Airs which you can't add more RAM to). What's Snow Leopard require?
