MBA rev: A 64gb SSD faster than MBA:rev:B 1,6ghz with 120gb HD

the rev A will be faster at times like email web and simple tasks the Hdd is still 4,200 rpm but it will be faster with games and movies I would choose rev a but ssd B kills!
Depends on what you're using it for. In raw benchmarks, the rev B will come out on top due to its faster FSB and nVidia 9400 graphics. But when you compare the boot times, the time it takes to open or close apps, or even the time it takes to turn off the computer, the SSD is noticeably faster. Plus, it won't slow down as the drive starts to fill up like an HDD would. Normal HDD's are slow enough when compared to SSD's, so the 4200RPM HDD in the MBA is a real bottleneck.

You absolutely positively made the right choice for now and the future. The Air you bought is twice the original with 1.8 and SSD... which was $3099 new less than a year ago!

does anybody know where you can purchase a compatible SSD for the REV:B?
There are a few, but it is difficult to get one with the right connector, wait until your warranty runs out and SSDs get cheaper. In the meantime, enjoy the MBA!

Here lies the problem. The rev B MBA uses a SATA/LIF proprietary connector. The only person who successfully installed an aftermarket SSD that I know of used a Samsung and posted it here on MR site in MBA section.
Two issues with non-Apple installed SSD. One, getting a drive with LIF connector or as in case noted fabricating a connector. Two, finding 1.8" SSD drive. It is a non-standard size, and there are not many of them on the market.
If you want SSD, the best bet is buying it from Apple. However, this may change, and the next MBA may even have 256 GB SSD using same LIF connector. Or maybe will come across an aftermarket solution.
Not sure if Apple will sell the SSDs for the HDD model. I don't think it fits with their sales and support model. I think the only time you can do this is at time of purchase (e.g. going with 1.6GHz w/ SSD as CTO or an off-the-shelf 1.8GHz with SSD). I'd be interested to know if anyone has successfully purchased the SSD for future reference. This is one of the reasons I went with the off-the-shelf model with the SSD.
Um, why didn't you just buy the SSD model if you want SSD? Really, it's a $500 upgrade with the computer as BTO with 1.6 or with 1.86 high end MBA it's $200 for CPU upgrade and $500 for SSD upgrade.
I think if you are going to go with SSD, you should return it and buy it from Apple. I have to imagine that just paying for an SSD would cost a lot more than $500 from Apple and for them to install it. Remember it is essentially paying the difference when you buy it new with the computer. The way you did it, you will have a spare drive for an MBA, and you will be paying the full cost for the upgrade plus installation costs.
Over time, there may be a better solution for upgrading the rev B MBA. If only some third party seller includes an LIF connector???
