Hello all, I opened my MBA Rev-A last night and the right hinge cracked.

I'm out of warranty, but I made an appointment with the local Apple store anyways to see what they say. I'll post a picture later, but it looks like all of the others.

Keep us posted.
I'm in the same boat (actually i'm anticipating I will be as it hasn't happened yet)

I've heard some encouraging things but you you never know. Doesn't seem likely that a business will honor out of warranty issues that are not officially acknowledged, at least for very long.

I don't want to switch to anything heavier presently so i'll try a variety of thing I guess.

Well, I guess I can't post a picture, to my pleasant surprise the Apple Genius looked at it and filed a repair ticket without asking any questions, saying that they were going to take care of the issue.

I should clarify, I cannot post a picture because the MBA has been turned over for repair.

i also took mine to apple store.... my warranty expired back in February but I buy a lot of equipment from there and know the manager.. he ended up authorizing it and sending it to depot for repair :)

in any case I also picked up a rev c / 128GB SSD and I'm VERY impressed.. doesn't overheat like my rev A, the SSD is blazing fast and the hinges feel more solid (could be because it's new) :/

My RevA MBA hinge broke this week. Took it into AppleStore, they will fix it! Only asked if I had damaged it, no. They looked at it and said they would ship it back to my house within 7 days. No problems at all. It's over 3-4 months out of warentee and no AppleCare. Exact words of manager were (while laughing cause I told her I thought I'd have problems getting this fixed) were: " We stand by our stuff".

I was wondering if the broken hinges showed any symptoms before snapping? I'm running a rev. A MBA, one of the very first, and the hinge is currently okay, asides from being almost ridiculously loose.

Hi. No symptoms at all. Just happened to me 15 mins ago, while slightly opening it a bit more. Crack just like that, out from nowhere. Then, when trying to close it, the top part wouldn't close well, so opened it, cracked again and the part on the right side of the hinge, just went off from the bottom case.

MBA Rev. A, lost warranty about 5 months ago, will try Apple Store tomorrow or so.

How long were you waiting for your mac ? Did they gave you any other options, like switching to REV B, C, or MBP 13" (with some extra costs) ?

Thanks

tool about 6 days as they had to ship it to depot which I checked is in Houston.... nope, I wasn't given any options re: upgrade to Rev B/C which is why I picked up a C anyway as I needed to continue to use it for my work :)
