mba rev.b 120 gb hdd change to ssd? possible?

i have a mba 120gb rev.b
it is possible to chnage the hdd for this ssd?

i am asking myself the same. i wrote the seller and he said that it is possible (positive feedback of customers). but i still can´t believe it. told me i have to use the adapter of the old hdd for the new one. but i think it is not an adapter but a special build hdd for apple.

he told me i should have a look at that manual:

so, the answer on this question would be very interesting...

If you have a rev B with HDD you can change it to SSD. However, it MUST BE the SSD drive used in the rev B MBA. A standard 1.8" drive has a SATA-II connector. The rev B uses a SATA to LIF connector.

There was a person who successfully upgraded his HDD to SSD in a rev B. It required knowledge and soldering to make it work. That post is called something like Micro-Sata LIF conversion...

In short, an SSD has to be 1.8" to fit with a 9mm clearance when removing the surrounding support for it. But to fit just without removing the surrounding support casing, the drive has to be 5 mm tall.

Your best bet is to buy an SSD from Apple. The cable you have will work as long as you get the drive from Apple.

I don't see that one working without a conversion to you LIF cable as done in the link I am including. It's advanced and a lot of expert soldering.

Probably not easy to get through Apple directly considering the HDD is not considered customer replaceable in the Airs; however, in another thread, a poster was able to get a quote for an upgrade to an SSD including labour through an Apple authorized service provider.

i already asked an apple service provider for an orig. apple ssd. he said it is possible but it will cost me 1200 euro (!!!!) without the replacement cost. so it is WAY cheaper to sell the hdd air and buy a new ssd one. hmpf...
