I just got my MBA 11.6" , a real beauty !

A question to those of you who have carried the new MBA around a bit, are there issues with the keyboard leaving smudges on the screen ?

I think he is referring to oil marks / imprints from the keys touching the screen when the laptop is closed.

This was a design flaw with many previous Apple laptops, but seems to have been a non-issue for the last few years now. My Pismo suffered it quite badly.

So far no indications of screen touches the keys on mine. I think the black rubber all over the edge seems holding well against the keys.

Yes indeed - sorry about my poor English ....

I have an early 2008 MBP (non-unibody) that is picking up dirt from the keyboard when closed, so I use a protective cloth between screen and kb .

Since there is no moshi clearguard for it yet...( i don't know about silicone protectors)...there is no need. When I have a kb protector on my MBA, that is when I have imprints. To solve this you can get something like a radtech screensavr which covers the keyboard and doubles up as a cleaning cloth.

I transport my MBP with the very-thin foam pad (delivered with the computer) between the display and keyboard.

If you lost or threw out the foam pad you might be able to get one from an Apple store.

cheers

Actually that's what I'm using, too, I was just struggling to find the proper term ;) .

Some people mustn't have enough real problems to worry about. Worrying about keyboard finger schmutz maybe getting on the screen. You could also solve this problem by not using the MBA and leaving it in its original packaging and remoting into it.:D

My new MBA has a small lifted edge around the screen that I assume alleviates this problem.

I hadn't thought about using the foam that came with it...I'll have to try that.

Actually, finger oils transferred from keyboard to screen can cause permanent damage to an LCD if not addressed quickly enough, especially glossy ones. That's not a problem for the glass-covered MBP, but (in theory) could crop up in the Air.

This was a significant issue back in Titanium Powerbook days, but Apple's done a good job increasing the gap from keyboard to screen since then. Even back in TiBook days, I just used a damp cloth to clean the keyboard outlines from my screen periodically.

tl;dr: I used to be that guy with the microfiber keyboard cover. Don't be that guy. Just wipe your screen with a soft, slightly damp cloth when you see marks on it.
