So ArsTechnica did a story on the availability of the MBA:

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/pos...utter-demand-stays-strong-sold-out-often.html

I was at the Apple Store in DE yesterday and they didn't have any to replace my "defective" MBA (bluetooth problem). But I was lucky enough to go to another store in PA to pick up my 1.6/80 replacement.

Do you guys think that the MBA is selling extraordinarily well or that Apple didn't anticipate the level of demand?

not sure which one but i'm having a lot of trouble getting one in london. i'm guessing its selling very well - there's always lots of people gathered round the display models so this indicates there's a lot of interest (or is it just people looking at the cool laptop that fits in an envelope??).

either way I hope they get some in regent street soon.

I was in an Apple store right outside of Washington DC last weekend, and the guy at the store said that they have been selling big time. He told me that they are selling out within a day or two each time they get a delivery.

I must have got lucky with Regent St. On the day I decided to go for it I came into the office as normal and phoned when they opened. They said that had 'more than 10' but didn't expect them to last the day. I couldn't leave until lunchtime, at which point I phoned again and was told they had 'about half a dozen'. At which point I ran for the train and worried all the way there.

When I arrived I collared the first employee I could find and was told, 'Sorry, we have none in stock.' Holding off the disappointment I insisted that I'd been told twice that there were some in stock, and ended up joining the queue to wait (all the while fearing they'd sell the last one as I was standing there!)

They seem to have some sort of in-store reservation system where a member of staff must first go and reserve your MBA, which then prints a barcode, which they then scan into a till.

I'd try phoning them each morning. They won't hold one even for a bribe, but you might have a chance of catching the incoming stock.

Same here. If not, I can always order online. But there is nothing like walking down oxford street watching people turn green with envy as they see the box you are carrying.

I don't think you can really infer anything from it being out of stock, sales could be really good, or Apple could have issued a very conservative initial run to drum up hype. Who knows?

Lol - I hid mine inside my rucksack for fear of a grab and run... you'd never catch them on Oxford St! Oh - and yes, the *entire* box fit inside my bag. :D

After some internal debate, I opted to purchase the MBA 1.8/80 this past weekend from the online education store. Now of course, I am wondering on its' arrival. Has anyone have recent experience with shipping times following online orders from Apple???
Just thought that I would inquire...

The Apple store in my area probably has them. I didn't ask. There are 8 of them on the table in the front of the store. I was by there the other day and they were being largely ignored, perhaps they are not in stock. Then again, it was the first day the Penryn Macbooks were out so people (including me) were there to check those out.

That tracker is a joke. It showed no availability for Brent Cross yesterday, but when I called up they had one 1.8 in stock. I drove over there and bought it. We are having a very hard time finding stock to replace our laptops in the business. So far we have managed to get 2 SSD and 2 HDD versions by going in early to Regent Street and yesterday driving to Brent Cross...

I have another SSD on order but its not due out until March 18th! Its odd how hard they are to get hold of...

Regards,

C

While waiting to pick up my iMac from being repaired, I caved to temptation and asked a rep to bring me one to buy. They were sold out. Good thing as I hardly need one. :D

Does anyone knows the average time to switch from 'prepared for shipment' and 'shipped' for a MBA bought online with Apple ?

I have not yet achieved "prepared for shipment" status. Which model did you order and how long did it take to be "prepared for shipment"? I am contemplating canceling my order and venturing to the local Apple store, upgrading to the 64 SSD over the 1.8/80 I originally ordered. Inpatient, probably, however my Powerbook 667 is aging before my eyes.

I've been wanting to buy an Air but there's none in stock where I live. I found out that a Best Buy like 50 miles out had a few in stock so I drove their last night and got one right before they closed. Apple guy told me he hasn't put them up on display otherwise they would have been gone by the time I drove there.

First post from my Air and coming from a blackbook I'm satisfied so far!!:D

For those who want to buy:
BUY ONLINE (i prefer amazon or apple)

For those wondering why its sold out:
1) Apple looked deep down in there hearts and decided to ship internet orderers first or:

2)They can't make enough or:

3)Apple is trying to make people think its selling well or:

4)Apple decided to spend its money on building a robot army

Shipped within 4 days

Ordered mine late Sunday, Mar. 2 and shipped out from Shangai, China March 6. Delivery Mon. Mar. 10.

They seem to be shipping before the 5 - 7 days that Apple states.
Can't wait!:D
