Hi all I’m new in the forum and after reading all the threads about the buying advice up to last October I’d like to ask an advice.
I need to replace my laptop and as many other already said, I can’t decide which Mac is best suitable for my needs.
At the moment I use it for:

-A lot of video conference (zoom and Skype) all day long with other app running in parallel ( basically reading manuals related to the call or some kind of documents/diagram)
-Photo editing with Affinity Photo
-Web
-Mail
-Spotify
I think that the base Air model could be enough but I worry about the fanless design during all the calling because I read some opinions writtten by other Users that the fan runs during this kind of tasks.
Another doubt is the “future proof” because generally I don’t change the laptop every year because once this horrible periods ends, the main device for my job will be the IPad and the laptop turns in my personal laptop without any kind of professional needs other the one for my hobby as photographer.

Thx all

Thx for the reply. I was worried about the fanless design but the differences between the Air and the Pro are negligible and I didn’t thought that worth 300€. Could be the swapping an issue? In these days are coming many videos and opinion about this

MacBook airs are very capable of performing heavy tasks, i am running mine since 2010 with has tasks including photo editing while playing iTunes while streaming a EPL football match online, i get the fan sometime going on, so i turn off iTunes, this is a 1.6 ghz 2 core intel chip that still packs a punch with 4 GB of RAM. the newer ones will perform great!

If your workflow involves high sustained usage of the CPU, the MBP would be the better choice (re: fans). What you described doesn't fall into that category, in my opinion.

I have a M1 MBA with 8GB RAM and put it through its paces regularly. And even with file swapping, my memory pressure has stayed green.

At the moment the “most demanding” tasks are the video conference but not for the laptop 😃 and for the photoediting, this is only an hobby without using too many levels or special effect so the Air will be more than capable.
Thx again for all the replies and the great advices
