Hi,

I just got myself a new MBA rev B 1.86GHz and 128GB SSD.

Was testing its screen against my 24" iMac. The photos on the iMac were much more 'alive'. If I remember correctly, that wasn't the case with the rev A.

I do have the "lines" on my MBA, however they are very faint and barely noticeable. I just ignore them.

Appreciate your feedback.

TIA.

The MBA lines are like a layer of grey grime which will effect picture and depth of color, especially at a distance.

Also on your MBA you can change the color profile to your liking. I remember the SSDs I had were a bit muted and the colors weren't 'punchy' until I calibrated.

Several on these threads have posted their color profiles.

Thanks for the reply. I did calibrate the screen and set it to "2.2 Television Gamma" which made it a bit better, but still not as expected. (the photo was taken after calibration)

Can you please post your profile? Will look around for others'.

Thanks

This is actually what you should expect. Your iMac 24 has an IPS 8 bit display panel. Your MBA has a 6 bit display panel. Even though your MBA is LED backlit, the 2 bits of lost color information cannot make up for the significantly better color accuracy of your iMac.

As for your rev A looking better, as justit explained that's probably due to the horizontal lines throwing off the display in the rev B.

Thats because 24" iMac's screen is 8-bit H-IPS panel that can display full 16.5 millions of colors without dithering. The Air's screen, though nice for a laptop, is only a 6-bit TN screen that displays 262000 (forgot the exact number) colors without dithering.

Thanks for the explanation guys. I was just wondering because my previous MBA had a better screen. It could be due to the "lines". Apple sucks.
