I recently replaced the OEM SSD on my 2015 MBP 13" with an OEM SSD from a 2015 15" (preformatted with Monterey). After switching to the new SSD, I did an internet recovery and formatted the SSD afresh then restored data from a previous backup of the 13" made in macOS Catalina. Ever since then the machine keeps reporting a "reboot because of a problem."

I have narrowed down to this reboot only happens when the machine sleeps from closing the lid but when manually selecting sleep from the Apple Logo menu, this doesn't happen. Here is the crash REPORT.

Instead of backing up the start up disk, i now copied the files that i wanted on to an external and set up as new and copied the data back, after another internet recovery clean install. Still the issue persists.

The SSD never used to do this when it was on the 2015 15." I'm at wits end trying to figure out what could be wrong. I ran a pmset -g and below is the result.

Hi!
What macOS version are you installing from the internet recovery?

Have you tried using the Mac without using restored data?
That’s part of the troubleshooting process. That’s why I opted not to migrate the data as a startup disk but just copied the data that I wanted.

Aren’t the SSDs compatible with either 13” or 15”? Will be testing another ssd to see if the same thing happens.

Yes, they are. I’m assuming that both are genuine Apple disks, because third-party drives are know to causing standby issues.

Is that the case, the one thing that can be different is drive’s firmware. I would try to install Catalina first and see how it works, then migrate to Monterrey.

They are; however, I wouldn’t also think that there is some firmware that perhaps connects OEM drives to a single computer. Try using third party and see if the issue persists.

Are they the same model, meant for the 2015 13"?

Had the 13" been updated to Monterey before? There is a MacBook Pro firmware update somewhere along the way to Monterey.

I bought a 256 GB Apple OEM SSD off eBay and used that to replace the 128 GB Apple OEM SSD in our 2015 13" MacBook Pro. Works great. However, I had already updated the machine to Monterey using the existing 128 GB drive, so any MBP firmware update would have been applied.

Note though, it is the exact same model of drive, although the firmware revision of the drive itself is different. Also, I did a clean install of Monterey just to be safe.

When I swapped a new SSD in my 2013 15" I installed Big Sur to the old drive (separate partition) first to get the firmware updated on the machine.
Then when I installed the new SSD, it worked flawlessly.

Yeah, not saying it can interfere, that just it might.

The 13” 256GB SSD had Monterey on it installed and it didn’t have the reboot issue. So did the 512GB SSD. It had Monterey installed. I had used it previously before installing the SK Hynix P31 Gold 1TB on the 15”

That’s the thing I want to know. I thought the SSDs were compatible for models from the same year? The 512GB was originally in the 15” and I swapped it to the 13”

Which specific drive was it, and what was the firmware revision?

Not that I know a lot about the specific drives, but I'm curious.
