I have the opportunity to replace my 16" I9 MBP with a 13" M1 MBP. Both are the same specs, 16gb/1TB.

I can basically swap the 2 at very little or no cost difference. The 13" will cost about $1000 less than replacing the 16" I9 with a 16" base model M-series Pro which is more than I would like to spend.

My use case is the 16" is my daily driver, desktop workstation. I like the 16" screen.

I would like to replace it with the newer M1 tech, but I am worried that the 13" screen is going to be too small for everyday use. My everyday usage is primarily around stock trading, I use my laptop for doing research, mostly web based or inside of my trading app.

I do have a desktop setup with multiple monitor which I use when warranted but I like to work portable from a laptop when I can.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who have gone from using a 16" every day down to a 13". Thanks.

I don't have the 16" MBP but I do have a 16" Lenovo with the same aspect ratio. I think you will be disappointed by the screen size.

The M1 only supports one external display.

I sold my 2019 16" back to apple for $1420. The intel models are EOL and are quickly losing their value. I would recco selling yours asap if you are considering upgrading to the new 14 & 16" models. If you want to save some monies check BestBuy they already have open box models available.

Let me know what you decided. I am in same situation. I trade stocks have a Windows multi monitors setup and a MBP 16 i9 with external wide monitor on another desk. Not tried the M1 yet. Thanks

The i9 model you have is more than capable for your needs. If you want to make the jump to M1 (and have a few hundred bucks), I would get a 14” M1 Pro model long before I touched a 13”.

Not only is the 13” likely to get an upgrade before the end of this year, I hate the Touch Bar. Furthermore, you’ll only be able to push one monitor with the 13”, lose out on fast charging, and lose some I/O (if any of that matters to you).

If you can get by with 512 GB, the 14” costs $100 more than the 13”. With 1 TB, you’re looking at a $300 difference

I have a 14” M1 and 16” M1, and I don’t feel like I’m missing much when I travel with the 14”. If anything, the 16” feels like a monster after using the 14” for awhile. You adjust to the size difference, and if you’re mainly using external monitors, screen size doesn’t matter as much.

For travel I do like the mbp 13 air or the mbp pro m1. Yes 512GB is more then enough for me. For sure the new 14 and 16 have great screen quality plus ports etc.
Thanks.
