Hello, dear forumites!

I want to upgrade my MBP 13 mid-2014 (basic 8/128 setup) which runs Catalina 10.15.7 by changing SSD to a faster one. However I found out that MBP 13 mid-2014 will have kernel panic and hibernation issues. As I understood, updating to Big Sur which shifts BootRom to 430.0.0.0.0 will fix the issue. But MBP 13 mid-2014 bricks with BigSur 11.1. So seems I don't have an option on upgrading my MBP, do I?

However right now macOS offers me to install BigSur 11.2.3. Should I do it? Is it safe?

Thank you.

I wouldn't guess. There's all sorts of problems with BigSur.
But, you try anything, if you have a Time Machine backup, which I suggest you create, if you are afraid of bricking your beloved device.

I have 2014 13" MBP and Big Sur runs well on it. While I upgraded to a larger SSD several years ago I have no idea if it was a lot faster. I bought mine from OtherWorldComputing so I just recommend you ask the company you are buying the drive from if its supported.

However right now macOS offers me to install BigSur 11.2.3. Should I do it? Is it safe?
Go for it, what's the worst that can happen? Just backup your computer in case you have an issue.
