I would appreciate owners of the new MBP 15" C2D matte would provide feedback if their system has a grainy display or not.

Please include a the date when your order shipped (if you bought it online) or when you purchased it in a store.

I bought my system on December 20 but have been reluctant to open it after I have seen reports of grainy screens on various forums.

This is my very first Mac so I'm a bit concerned about opening it. I don't want to get dragged into one of those 1 - 2 month issues many seem to be having with Apple on a more frequent basis.

In a related question, is there a way to determine the build date of my system based on say the serial number? I ask because my research online shows that Apple may have slowed/stopped production of the 15" models earlier this month (link)

I would appreciate feedback.

My stock 15" is perfect. If there is grain on the screen, I can't notice it. I have compared it to my previous laptop (an HP NW8240 with 1920x1200 res) and the screen clarity looks very similar. If I look closely, I can notice the matte coating on the screen, but I haven't seen any matte LCD screen that does not look like this.

I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong, but i believe the 4th and 5th digit of your serial number is the build week. Mine is 44. My screen is the 9C60.

Same thoughts. My MBP is a week 49 and my screen is also a 9C60. I love this machine.
