Hello All,

I've seen a lot of discussion regarding the massive overheating of the original 2019 16" MBP's.

I bought a plastic case to protect my 2019 MBP 16" and help keeps its resale value.

I never realized, until removing the case at one point, that the Mac had been running so hot, overtime discoloration had appeared
on the bottom case in the shape of the protective shell.

I assume this will be outside of warranty for Apple and the case manufacturer.

(I've contacted the case manufacturer several times and they stopped replying to me)

Does anyone have tips on cleaning solutions that could repair the case for heat discoloration?

If I buy a new bottom case and reinstall this will void my Apple Care Warranty ?

Is my only "warranty safe" option to have it replaced by Apple at my cost then ?

Needless to say, extremely disappointed with the case manufacturer and Apple and after purchasing a $5,000 laptop...

Hi there!
If it really bothers you, it's a $99 fix:
Maybe less on eBay.

I don't think that's related to heat, but simply to oxidation. Some partes are exposed to air and others not.
Same thing happens with stickers.

Thanks Diego.
I don't see the oxidation on the sides where the lightening ports are but maybe a mix of heat + oxidation?

If I remove and replace the bottom case myself, that is voiding Apple Care correct ?

Thanks!

If you are on US, opening a device and replace parts, while you don't break anything, will not void it's warranty.
It's a Federal law.

Of course, Apple ignores this and includes this clause to the Apple Care T&C:

Apple will not provide Hardware Service or ADH Service in the following circumstances:

(g) To repair any damage to Covered Equipment (regardless of the cause) if the Covered Equipment has been opened, serviced (including for upgrades and expansions), modified, or altered by anyone other than Apple or an authorized representative of Apple

So to be safe, save the old bottom case. If you need to use the Apple Care services, put the older one before sending the Mac to Apple. There's none indicator that they can tell if the machine was opened. Well, dirty and greasy fingers maybe 😁

Bear in mind the bottom plate has the machine's serial number engraved, so for you to use an alternate case it won't void your warranty, but if you send the MBP to repair then without the original plate they can deem it have missing parts, at least it will be hard for them to identify the machine without booting it up anyway.
