my 1 month old 17" MBP(2.33) has 2 issues and I'm looking for comments as to whether anyone else is experiencing any of these issues...

1. The bottom of my machine isn't totally flat. The front right foot of the machine sits about 2-3mm raised. I don't recall the machine being in this condition when I took delivery, although I may have just been un-observant. I'm concerned though that the machine may be warping due to heat. The istat widget I run frequently shows my CPU A reaching 73C when I'm gaming - is this within normal limits? Caused by heat or not, while a not entirely flat machine isn't the hugest deal in the world, it is irritating. I'm not entirely satisfied with it, I'm worried if it may get worse and if it may cause further complication through the life of the machine. Has anyone else had similar issues?

2. When the computer is closed in sleep if I pick it up by the front right corner sometimes (almost half the time) the DVD drive whirs and the machine wakes from sleep. Although this is the same corner of the machine I don't {{{think}}} the two issues are related because my flatmate has an early model MBP 17" and his machine definately is completely flat and sits stably on all 4 feet, however it demonstrates the same waking from sleep issue as my machine. In fact on his machine this issue is more pronounced. Are any of you with a 17" MBP also finding this?

I haven't contacted apple about this yet - wanted to check out if they were common complaints/known issues first. Thanks for reading - replies appreciated :)

I've never heard of these issues. Regardless, if you call Apple they'll have it fixed for you. Its probably as simple as realigning the case.

Yep, my last 17" (C2D 2.33) had exactly the same issue with not sitting flat. It was also the right front foot that would not make contact with the surface, leaving the same 2-3mm gap you describe. I wouldn't have noticed it, except that resting my hand on the palmrests, rather than the keyboard, caused an audible bump of the foot with the work surface.

At first, I just thought it was my home work desk, because it's definitely nowhere near level at the point where that foot was supposed to be making contact. As it turned out, though, the machine wouldn't sit flat on 99% of the surfaces I tried.

I was in my 14-day return period and knew that the Santa Rosa revision was going to happen soon, so I just returned it for a refund. For what it's worth, the Genius I spoke to seemed to have an idea as to how to fix the slight warping without having to replace the casing. I just chose to return it, though, because of the upcoming revision.

My 17" Santa Rosa machine doesn't have this problem. It still won't sit flat at that particular point on that particular desk, due to the known desk warping; the gap is about 0.5mm. Everywhere else I've tried it, sits perfectly flat.

As for your issue #2, I've never heard of that happening.
