My flatmate has a halfyear old MBP 17-inch and in our flat he only gets like half the range on his AirPort than i've on my "SR" 15-incher.

Is there anything with the 17-incher in general or is his flawed and should call apple about it?

We both have all newest patches applied and 10.4.10 installed.

If it matters he has the non sr version a 2.33GHz with the x1600 card and i have a Santa Rosa 2.2GHz

Thanks in advance

I don't think it's the size of the MBP, I think it's the AirPort card. My 17" SR MBP gets better reception then my 15" CoreDuo (little over year old) MBP got. The newer 'n' cards get better reception.

Size doesn't matter

It depends on the card and the location of the antenna.

Ok, but does that mean that the 17-incher should have worse performance due to card and antenna placement?

And both the machines have worse performance than my old Powerbook G4, but difference between the 15-inch and the G4 is very slightly, so I guess that "newer is better" isn't always true.
