MBP 2.2ghz running at 1.83ghz.

I've installed coreduotemp and it is reporting that my cpu is running at 1.83ghz, although I have a mbp 2.2ghz. I though it was because I had my energy saver set at normal, but even set at "Better Performance", it's still running at 1.83. Not only that, sometimes I see the clock go down to 1.33 for several seconds (sometimes even minutes) and then it goes back to 1.83. In system profiler, the cpu is reported as a core 2 duo at 2.2ghz.

All of this is happening while my mbp is supplied with power (MagSafe Power Adapter)

Now, it's to know if coreduotemp really is reporting the correct cpu clock.

did you also forget a question mark, I can't really follow your train of thought dude. Are you trying to ask a question or just throw this point out there?

it is not, if you search the forums you will see it is because of how that program calculates the CPU speed. if you do the math you can see that it is the program and not the processor it self.

Is your computer running hot? I don't know about the C2D's specifically, but some older Intel chips automatically throttle the CPU down when it gets hot so as to avoid meltdown.

At idle, coreduotemp reports 40C most of the time, and when I photoshop and flash and multitask a lot, it can get up to 65C.

Good, thanks for the feedback, now is there anyone that has the MBP 2.2ghz and could tell me what clocks coreduotemp is reporting? Just wanna make sure it's a coreduotemp issue and not the mbp itself!

Well, someone is lying.

Either it is Apple who sold you the worlds only 1.83 GHz MBP while claiming that it runs at 2.2 GHz, while patching System Profiler so you won't notice, opening them up to all kinds of lawsuits, or... it is CoreDuoTemp.

My bets are on CoreDuoTemp making the mistake of taking the clock multiplier (11) and multiplying with what they think is the motherboard frequency (166MHz) instead of finding out the correct factor (200MHz).

Your MacBook Pro cannot possibly run at 1.83GHz. It can run at 2.2 GHz, or 2.0, 1.8, 1.6, 1.4 etc. to save energy. It is absolutely impossible for it to run at 1.83GHz.

Same Problem

I too am having the same problem.

2.2 ghz in "About this Mac" and on my purchase receipt, but CoreDuoTemp shows 1.83 ghz.

Are there any other ways, without downloading software, to check the cpu speed?

There a technology called EIST in Intel CPUs, which lowers the CPU clcok speed if it's not in high usage. Run some demanding programs and see if the clock goes up again
