MBP 2011 ear;y model - Heat/throttle issue

Hey everyone,

I have the early MBP 2011 model and I am having issues when playing games (Diablo 3 - bootcamp). After 30 min. or so of playing, the temperatures get up to 90-100 Deg. Celsius. When it reaches this temp. my performance goes way down. My FPS literally drops dramatically. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem or there is a problem with my heatsink/fan. I use smc to controll the fans and it is always put to 6200rpm when I play games. Will playing for a couple hours shorten my hardware lifespan because of this?

I just want to find a solution to keep my gpu/cpu temp. under 90 deg.

It's normal to see high temps when gaming. The laggyness is the CPU throttling to try and cool down after that is a forced shut down. It shouldn't do it to be honest. If your out of warranty open the bottom up and blow it all out with compressed air. If that dosnt help reapplying a decent thermal paste will. If your under warranty take it in to apple and show them the issue.

get some type of cooling pad to help the airflow... make sure you're not blocking off the vents... turn on vsync if its in the game, or frame rate limiters... turn down the graphics a bit... all can help it run cooler.

my mid-2010 15" mbp could get to 80-100c as well. it appears to throttle as when i play intense games, mbp appears to slow down and fps seems to drop. i maxed out the fan, but it wont help that much. the things that would really help is placing the laptop on conductive surfaces because mbp relies heavily on conduction to external surfaces rather than fan cooling.
