Okay, this is actually a repost from the official Apple Support Communities (where the folks there didn’t respond or give a conclusive answer to my problem); I bought this 13" MBP from 2016 in Osaka. In short,
Oh and I've set a different location for my Mac, and magically, my home wifi connected, but only for half an hour before being unable to connect again...
Once again, thank you very much for your assistance 🙇♂️
A member there has shown me ways to correct my issue, but I did it to no avail. (Shoutout to BDAqua if they're here!) I later followed up with:I am a new Apple owner. I recently bought a MacBook Pro (2016) and running Monterey. For the first two weeks, the wifi worked fine, I can connect to any network. But then one day, it suddenly didn't worked anymore.
It only happens on some wifi networks (even my friend who owns an iPhone tried to tether to it with no luck), notably my home network that was previously working, and my classroom's wifi (oddly enough the other class wifi works).
I'm really stumped, as I have resetted the PRAM and SMC, deleted the plists, and everything. I don't have Keychain if you're asking. Is it time I traded it in? (despite my recent acquisition)
... I am new here and I consulted the forum rules; should I link the original thread links, or is a block quote okay?Basically, this is an update and a continuation of this thread. I did *not* reinstall the OS as I have critical data on it (no, I do not own a second Mac, nor do I have a physical hard drive to back up the data to because I'm a broke student with little time), and even when I try to reinstall it, it shows an error on the macOS install setup.
Alright, so basically title. It's debilitating as some networks (even new ones I try to connect at cafés for example) outright refuses to connect or asks me to repeatedly input the password, which I know is correct, as my other device, an Android, can connect to it. Some networks (some with 5Hz bands, and some with 2.4Hz bands) can connect on the first try. It can connect to my mobile hotspot, fortunately (which is what I'm using to write this post).
Here's a list of Wi-Fi networks that *could* connect to my MacBook:
Oddly enough, as I've detailed in the previous post, is that whenever I connect to a new network, disconnect and try to connect to it again, it usually won't connect (infinite password prompt). This is really annoying as I like to study outside in the same place. And no, my home wifi won't connect. (It used to be able to, then one day it's like a switch flipped.)
- My hotspot (oddly enough it wont connect sometimes when I set the band to 5Hz or vice-versa.)
- 5G networks (there was this one network from a café that was available but disappeared all of a sudden)
- networks with a sign in prompt
I tried troubleshooting it, following steps in and out of this forum, Reddit, promotional websites, everything! I reset the PRAM, SMC, the plists; I even tried (emphasis on tried) to restart my Mac to no avail!
Extra information, I bought this device secondhand at a shop in Osaka, and I live in another country. Everything works when I was in Japan, but not here...
I don't have any VPN or firewall software, and I'll be glad to give you all my system reports, please, help me.
(How do I send my system report?)
Thank you very much for your time, and thank you in advance.
...what a way to dip my toes in macOS (coming from a Windows user)...
Oh and I've set a different location for my Mac, and magically, my home wifi connected, but only for half an hour before being unable to connect again...
Once again, thank you very much for your assistance 🙇♂️
