Hi all,
I've been going back and forth among the various configurations for the new 2018 MacBook Pros and am eager to get some second opinions.
My current machine is a mid-2010 Mac Pro 6 core / 3.33ghz with 32gb RAM and a GTX 680 2GB. It's getting a little bit long in the tooth, and I'm looking for an interim solution for having a portable and powerful machine that I could use at home and while traveling. While I realize that a laptop can't be a true desktop replacement, I feel that having a decently powerful machine I can take with me on trips or on-site for freelance jobs may be beneficial.
I'll be using the machine primarily for digital illustration with a large density of layers in Photoshop, so 32 gigs of RAM is pretty much a no-brainer at this point. I don't seem to recall many tasks in PS using multiple cores, and would imagine a higher clock processor would at least provide some benefit.
I also do mid-weight After Effects which is not that heavy on simulation, particles, or anything requiring photo-realistic rendering or compositing. I'm aware that a sustained usage of the CPU and GPU for rendering will likely mean processors working at base clock speed or perhaps even slightly lower, so I'm thinking that the i9 is out of the question and should stick to the 2.6 i7 or base 2.2.
Any and all recommendations are welcome!
