Hello all,

I'm having this issue since last month. Right now, nothing is installed on my computer and when I close the lid it becomes hot and start loosing battery.(like %20 in one hour) I did everything I can imagine. SMC, Pram+Nvram reset..Then I did format and fresh install of Monterey, downgraded from Sonoma. Nothing changed..I run diagnostics and it didn't find any problem. Also the battery health is "Normal".

I don't know if this had something to do with it but the usb-c ports on my right side also does not work, which I don't care much. I'm really happy with my computer so I just don't want to replace it with the new Air m3 but I'll do it if I can't find any solution.

Thank you!

Does the usb-c ports on the left side work? How do you charge your MacBook?

Check also System Settings > Login Items > disable and delete all 3rd party apps there, so no 3rd party app working in the background. Work with your MacBook on battery until the level is about 40%, shut it down and leave it for a while. Check also before shutting down, if the Optimised battery charging is enabled.

Let it be plugged in always, at least while you are using it near an electricity socket. If you have to use it on battery, use it all the way up to 40%, and then plug in again. While plugged in, check how your MBP acts sleeping with lid closed. When, you are working on battery, instead of put it to sleep, shut it down. Do that few times. After a while the MBP/macOS catches up and the heating would go away, and you'd be able to put it to sleep with lid closed without heating. (I've gone through this matter with Sequoia Beta on a 15" 2018 dual graphic MBP with success.)

The not working usb-c ports on the right side is troubling, which signals that it might have a logic board problem.
