If you had the choice, considering my three choices are the same price, which one would you recommend? Main focus: video editing with Final Cut Pro X (5-10 minutes videos).

Choice 1: MBP 2019 16 inches, intel 8-core i9 2,3 Ghz (turbo boost 4,8), 16 go ram DDR4 2666, 1 tb ssd, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4 Go memory GDDR6

Choice 2: MBP 2020 16 inches, Intel 6-Core i7 2,6 Ghz (turbo boost 4,5) 9th gen, 16 go ram DDR4 2666, 512 ssd, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4 Go de mémoire GDDR6

Choice 3: MBP 2020 13 inches, intel 4-core i7 2,3 Ghz (turbo boost 4,1) 10th gen, 16 Go ram LPDDR4X 3733, 1 tb ssd, Intel Iris Plus Graphics

I'm moving from MBA mid-2012, 1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz, 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM, 256 ssd

Thanks. I think I already know the answer, but I'd like to ask.

There is no "2020" macbook pro 16", the model has remained unchanged since it's introduction in November 2019.

Assuming around equivalent pricing, I'd absolutely go with machine number 1. Literally double or more the CPU power of the 13", 1TB drive for working on perhaps larger projects (editing directly off an external hard drive may not have represented a bottleneck on your old air, but will on these new machines). Plenty of RAM, and a fast graphics card if you ever delve into motion are a must.

That's was my first choice also but, considering a 10th gen cpu might better than a 9th gen cpu, I was hesitating... Thanks a lot for your help. And instead of 2020 MBP, I guess I should have said 9th gen cpu I guess.

Let's put it this way… CPU is virtually irrelevant when it comes to FCP. The foremost deciding factor as far as performance is concerned is GPU (exactly as much as Motion). Then RAM, then disk I/O… then, much much later, CPU.

Therefore number three is a complete no-go for lack of any GPU. Go with 1.

Many many thanks. Now, I understand (I looked for GPU vs CPU). Therefore, I understand choice 1 is better because of higher graphics capabilities. Right?
