I am a desktop space ho, I'll admit it. I took a trip to the Apple store and fell in love with the 30" ACD. I love portability too. I am probably going to wait for the 17" MBP to come out. If I buy a portable, it is definatly going to be connected to a monitor and mouse at home. I'd love to get it all at once, but the price with software is going to be $6000+ (USD). Should I wait and save up for this package or should I buy the MBP now, software in-between, and the ACD later?

Mbp+30" ACD or MBP Now, ACD Later?

30" ACD is really pushing it there, don't you think? 23" is huge as it is. 30" really isn't practical for home use if you aren't running pro-level apps for professonial reasons.
I'd really recommend 23" and the MBP.
As far as the MBP, if you like portability.. I'd say get the 15" now. The 17" will severely limit your portability - they're freaking huge.

I'd recommend getting the MBP now because if you're getting a 30" ACD then it really isn't important in getting a 15" or a 17" and you will get your computer earlier. If you've got the $$ to get the 30" ACD definately go for it because it is just an impressive monitor and I will be jealous. If I could afford one I would just because it is so glorious. You will love that set up though I guarentee it.
I'm not going to give you a speech on finance, but just because you HAVE the money for something expensive, doesn't mean you should spend it. 30" ACD's are freaking MASSIVE. I don't see the need for one in a typical setting. See my above post.
I chose 30" because I have demo-ed them in Apple Stores and am really pleased with whats there. I hate having to switch windows and move stuff around to see things. All my school monitors can display 1280x1024 yet they insist on displaying 1024x768. I hate it. Macromedia fireworks can't even display a 400x400 canvas in its entirety. I do alot of large photoshop work as I make my own backgrounds and I usually have about 8 or so small windows open with small images, etc. Is 30" really needed and is it practical? For me it is.

I would say get the 15in MBP over the waiting for the 17in mostly b/c its a bit more portable than a 17in. Ive been carrying my 15in PB around campus for three years and its pretty bulky as it is ive already decided my next laptop will have a 13in monitor.
I agree if you like the 30in get the 30in....dont let anyone tell you otherwise because its much better to get the right thing in the first place instead of losing money by getting a 23in then deciding to pick up a 30in one year later.

Hang off and see if they do a 13" MBP - if you want portability, then that is the best option. With portability, smaller and lighter is better. If they are available and you max it out, then it should be a pretty good machine.
TBH 23" should be plenty for you - I use a 19" (on Windows
) at work and it's plenty of screen real estate for most needs, although if you want a 30", can afford it, and most importantly, can justify it, then go for it.
If you decide against portable, a 20"iMac with a 23" screen beside it would be damned sweet.

I wonder, how is the gaming on a 23 or 30". Can you even game on it? Is it too big, can your gpu handle it, etc?? You couldn't game in it's native resolution could you? Most games wouldn't support it.
