Hello there.
Due to my recent purchase I'm now proud owner of a MBP 1,1 from 2006 with CoreDuo CPU and 2 GB RAM.

My problem: The MBP does work but won't install any OS.

  1. I have a retail DVD of Snow Leopard which does boot till a blue screen comes on and then nothing
  2. macOS Lion usb installer will not boot at all
  3. macOS Leopard discs are booting into installation - I can format my ssd but it will not install
Can I get a set of Tiger CDs/DVDs somewhere for Intel?
Any other suggestions? Thanks.

That is because, without hacks, Lion is not supported on a 1,1/any Core Duo Mac as it requires a 64-bit CPU, while the Core Duo is only 32-bit.

How are you creating your installer? If made with ASR on a Mac, it should always work.

A second workaround, if you can:

  1. Connect, in Target Disk mode, the A1150 to another Mac.
  2. On the mounted A1150, use Disk Utility to create a second partition ~8GB in size (this second partition will be temporary). The first partition should be left untouched (or, if you were planning to start fresh, use the GUID partition scheme and set it up with that second partition being 8GB).
  3. On the other Mac (with the SL install disc mounted), use Carbon Copy Cloner (3.4.7) to clone that DVD to the second partition on the A1150.
  4. After that’s done, power down and power on your A1150, holding down option, and selecting the partition with a bootable SL installer image of that DVD.
  5. Install to the first, main partition.
  6. Afterwards, once you’ve successfully booted into the new installation, open Disk Utility to remove that second partition.

Hopefully, this should get you where you want to be. :)

Thanks for all the kind replies.
I am not sure about the partition table but since I formatted it in the Leopard Installer it's probably NOT GPT?

I built the installer pendrive for Lion months ago on Windows with TransMac because it would not work on macOS and I successfully installed Lion on my ancient mac mini with CoreDuo CPU.

There's your problem. TransMac is extremely unreliable at best in terms of creating working OS X installers. It's gotten ever so slightly better with modern macOS installers, but these old Macs are finicky when it comes to USB installers.

Do you another Mac that you can use? It can be anything, PPC, Intel or Apple Silicon.

I may be wrong here but the installer did work before. It is just that the MBP does not support macOS Lion at all.
According to the system requirements a Core2Duo is required which it lacks. I'm just having trouble booting anything at all.

On the other hand I had an older Ubuntu installer DVD which did boot. At the moment I think this would be a way better choice for this kind of in-between-MBP as I have several PowerBooks which boot Tiger just fine.

I am downloading this right now! Thanks a lot.

Okay the download took forever but now I have a 13 GB dmg file.

Unfortunately I cannot create a bootable drive.
I think this is why I ultimately used TransMac.
