MBP/An Introduction

I just wanted to formally welcome myself to Mac Rumors. The insight and knowledge provided by everyone on this forum has led me to purchase my first mac.

Yesterday I walked into the Apple store in Yorkdale (Toronto) and decided it was time to make the switch. Goodbye PC + Windoze, I've enjoyed you for a while now, even though you brought about some periless times. In the end, I could not resist the amazing new MacBook Pro's, their performance, portability, and looks.

I purchased the 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo model. The student discount saved me 200 dollars, plus I received a free nano and printer. I've had no sleep thus far, I've just been uploading music, photos, playing around on garage band, iphoto, etc. This is by far the best computer I have ever owned. It is stunning.

So, I offer you all a shake of the hand. I feel like this website brings to it some of the most intelligible mac users. Pat yourselves on the back, you have helped contribute to a vast network of information that will help people all over the world with their quest to become better users.

*One question I do have is on my computer I clicked on "About this Mac" and then clicked on "More Info". Under "Graphics/Displays" it says I have an LCD screen. I thought the new MacBook Pro's have LED screens?

the LED simply refers to the backlighting.

CCFL was the old lighting.

Thank you very much. What exactly are the benefits of LED vs CCFL? Aside from a better shelf life.

a few benefits off the top of my head.

instant max lighting, no warmup
uses less energy, meaning more battery life
does not contain Nitrogen gas, important when disposing of these screens
does not "fade" over time, this is relative, but supposedly CCFL screens fade more easily over time

Ah alright, seems like it will work well for me. I just hope I don't have any problems with this MBP, its amazing so far. But then again, a forum isnt the greatest place to come if your looking for reassurance about the product.

Edit: I do have one more question. What is the powercord that comes with MBP. Not the magsafe, the other one that seems to have a 2 pronged connector at the end of it?

That's a power chord extension. You can pull the connector off the magsafe, and hook the extension to it to get a super long chord.

Ah alright, that's pretty cool. I was wondering why my magsafe cord was so short. Maybe I should do a run through of the 'everything Mac' manual I got with the MBP.
