Has anyone actually tried the DVI to Composite/S-video adaptor that Apple sells for the PowerMac/Mac mini G4 on the new MBP?

For anyone who has both the MBP and the adaptor, please post your results.

Thanks.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I haven't found any threads of this topic yet.

Well, TV-out on my laptop is really important to me...so I want to know if it will actually work before I buy one. I use my iBook as my DVD/Movie player, so if I replace my iBook with a MBP, I want it to be able to do everything that my current machine does.

So as long as it outputs properly over the Composite and/or s-video outputs on the adaptor, then I'll be happy. If it doesn't, then I have to stick with my old machine I suppose....which would really suck.

Thanks for giving it a try...keep me up to date on what you figure out.

Bought the Apple DVI-to Video converter from my local apple store. Plugged it into my MacBook and it works perfectly!

I've long used the adaptor to connect a NTSC monitor via S-vid to my PM G5 for editing. Works perfectly, detects the analog display, offers you "best for video" and overscan options.

My assumption is that it works the same on the MBP.

I assumed it would too...but you never know sometimes...there are people who were trying to get them to work on the 7800GT add-in card in the PowerMac and it doesn't work on those at all.

Yeah, those settings are really handy. :) I use them all the time on my iBook. The MBP might even be fast enough that i can watch movies while working on the other screen (things get sluggish if I try to do that with my iBook).

This is most excellent news. As I mentioned above, I assumed it would, but without proof, there's always a doubt.

I have a TiBook 1Ghz and I watch movies or anime on the T.V. as a 2nd screen and do my internet, homework and IM on the powerbook screen. No slow downs.

Yours is also much faster than mine. ;) I don't doubt that the MBP will do both easily (you could probably even encode movies and watch DVDs at the same time)....it'll be a nice change. :)

connected my working cable today and it worked very smoothly
color on my pal tv

though it says it requires a mini or a g5

order no M9267G/A ("APPLE DVI TO VIDEO ADAPTER KIT-GEN")

I ordered in germany, but i guess the numbers are the same worldwide (at least for such things as dvi adapters)

I was about 95% sure it would work (even if only for ATC GPUs), but it never hurts to have someone actually try it...Once the MBP is a little more available, I will be putting in my order for sure.

you're welcome
but i would not wait too long.
i waited 32 days for my mbp and it is incredible, well except for the whining, but you get used to it

I figure I'll have to wait 4 weeks to get it anyway, and hopefully by then they will be more available. In a month, the 30th anniversary will have happened, and if they release something that I want even more, then I won't wish I had waited (although I doubt they will).

Either way I have to wait, so I might we well keep my money in the mean time. Hehe, For that penny in interest and all. ;)
