A serious question, perhaps best answered by someone with an M3 Pro, Macbook Pro, with extra memory (maybe 48 or so), and who connects 2 external monitors and operates in clamshell mode.
I have the LAST of the Intel-based MBP, 64G, and the standard graphics card. I operate in clamshell mode pretty much 100% of the time.
Video conferencing apps such as Teams, Zoom, Slack Video Calls and Google Meet all cause my CPU to spike and the fans go into 747 mode.
Recently, it has been a little better, have researched and done to PRAM and other resets. I figure it is a product of:
1. Video conferencing is expensive (CPU/memory, not $$$)
2. Intel
I have heard that the M series is much better, but wondering if anyone with an M3 can comment; assuming the M4 will be even better...
I should also note that I do software development on this machine, and even compiling and testing with massive or fast streaming data sets does not cause the CPU to go into 747 nearly as often as simple a video call...
Thanks!
