I have an early production MBP (2Ghz) and was eligible for the battery recall, which was issued due to performance issues with the battery, not a safety concern. Last week, the original battery began to not hold charge below 40%, so I figured it was time to use the new battery (which has been sitting here, I wanted to get my useage out of the old one).

Today I removed the old one so I could do the breakin on the new battery, and look what I found! The old battery has a bulge in it, pushing up the aluminum skin! It has not just delaminated.

I'm just glad it wasnt worse (aka fire/explosion)

That's probably one of the reasons for the recall.

That was the exact reason for the MBP battery recall... there was a rather lengthy thread covering a fair number of people encountering this a few months back.
