Hey,

When I wake up this MBP from sleep, it goes to the desktop for a second. Then, it shows a blue screen for about 5 seconds where i can't do anything. Then it goes back to the desktop.

This is pretty annoying. Anyone else have this issue? Any fixes?

Issue #2: New wireless mighty mouse takes forever to be recognized if it's been shut off as computer wakes from sleep. Should i never shut the mouse off? Will this kill the battery life? Thanks!

that identical thing would happen to my TiBook when removing an external monitor - desktop, few seconds of blue, then desktop. i wonder if it has to do with the video card cycling somehow? (not sure if video cards even cycle)

Hmm...we had a similar thread on this a couple of days ago. Does that sound like your problem?

I don't know that anything was resolved in that thread, but it appears that you're not alone. :(

I never turn my wireless mighty mouse off and i've had it for about five months now. I have not had to replace the batteries since and it seems brand new. Sorry I could not get an answer to your other issue, but I hope this helps! :)

Mine has been doing this since the 10.4.8 update too. Every time I open it from sleeping, the desktop comes back but then goes away and it shows the blue start-up/shut-down screen for a few seconds then goes back to normal.

Sometimes it won't sleep when I close it too. I have to restart it first.

I did a disk repair and permission repair then made it sleep by pressing the power button. After waking it up, I didn't get the blue screen. Only time will tell if it really worked or not.

The exact same thing has been happening to me for the last few days. I can't pinpoint when it started but it definitely started after having 10.4.8 for a while. I have noticed that as it switches from blue screen back to my desktop there is a sound, similar to emptying the trash, but not the same - its sort of like static. It seems weird that it just started happening all of the sudden and now is happening consistently whenever I wake my MBP up.

Mine has been doing it occasionally ever since I got it. Never found a satisfactory solution. I don't let it sleep for any length of time and I shut it down at the end of the day.

Is there a reason why Macs can't suspend to disk by the way? I find this feature pretty invaluable on Windows laptops.

Me too. Still need to get it sent off to AppleCare… :(

Put your computer to sleep and pop out the battery. Put the battery back in and press the power button. ;)

Um... it reboots. That's part of the problem. I sometimes wonder if I don't phrase my posts properly.

Suspend to disk (which I imagine is a tricker task) on my Sony/Dell Windows laptops is rock-solid. I hit suspend, wait 20 secs for it to write everything out, then I can take the laptop anywhere without worrying about power, etc. When I sit down somewhere, I hit the power button and the laptop resumes exactly where it was from disk. Suspend to RAM is also never a problem, but I never use it when I have suspend to disk. Just suspend to RAM alone (which I imagine is simpler) is extremely flaky on the Macs and I'm wondering why (like VM) they can't master a simple thing like that.

Doesn't it suspend to disc automatically before going to sleep?
Then if the ram has lost power, it will read from disc when it wakes up.
I find that sometimes the mbp has gone to sleep, and the "sleep light(?)" has gone out (ie, no more battery). When I wake it, it'll take about 10 sec or so to start up, during which it shows a grey image of the desktop.

About the blue screen thingie, it happens to me as well, but not every time it wakes. Anyone found out why? Kind of annoying.

I can't tell you for certain, it's just my experience that if the battery runs out and I wake it from sleep (plugged in, of course), it takes about 10 s, while I stare at a grey desktop. Thus I figured that it's a result of the mbp having suspended to disc. Only thing that makes sense.
I figure the same should happen if you put it to sleep and pop out the battery as suggested. But make sure that it is sleeping, it takes half a minut or so from closing the lid before the disc stops spinning.

It suspends to disk just before the battery runs out alright, other than that I'm not sure.

I'm also seeing the blue-screen on wake-up; though it doesn't bother me that much.

It can't really suspend to disc without spinning up the disc. I haven't experienced my sleeping mac suddenly waking up, writing to the disc, and then turning itself off. Thus I believe it probably suspends to disc just before going to sleep.
Makes sense, but I could be wrong.

FYI, I haven't seen the blue screen come back since I did the repair mentioned above.

Starting with the PowerBook G4 (Double-Layer SD) and continuing through MacBook Pro, the progress bar shown above indicates that the computer is waking from Safe Sleep. Safe Sleep ensures that data stored in main memory will not be lost should the system shut down due to a loss of power during sleep mode. Prior to your system entering sleep, Safe Sleep automatically saves the contents of main memory—such as desktop settings, open applications, and other work in progress—to the hard drive.

treblah just nailed the whole kit and caboodle. That "blue screen" is the Mac "waking up" after a deeper ("Safe") sleep. Nothing to worry about.

You can disable the "Save sleep" to make the newer models behave like older portables. If you google it, there's a Terminal command to shut it off.

I don't think that's it, safe sleep is when you get a grey screen and a progress bar, it takes several seconds. The blue screen is just a blink and it only takes a second or so.
For some unknown reason, I haven't seen the "blue screen" for the past several days.
