A few night ago, my wife tells me the MBP breathes during the night while it's sleeping!
It's sleep mode light goes bright then dim, as if it's breathing:)

Apple calls it pulsating. It indicates the computer is sleeping and the hard drive isn't spinning.

How unromantic. I say my PB is breathing too.

Anthropomorphism rules!

Sleepy Sawtooth

My 1999 Sawtooth G4 tower's power light shows me when it's sleeping/breathing as well, as did my 1998 Lombard Powerbook. I don't know when these machines starting breathing, but it was definitely pre 1999.

I do remember the 1st time I noticed the pulsating light, it was the 1st time it occurred to me just how much thought really goes into these machines. Now if they'd just ship my 17" MBP C2D... then I can put this Ol' Faithful on backup server duty.

Both my iMac and my PowerBook have this pulsating white light.

The one on the TiBook is so insanely bright that it sometimes feels insects are setting off tiny silent flares in my bedroom at night. I have to put a tshirt over it.

The one on the iMac is not so bright as it does not pulsate when the screen is sleeping and I never put the computer to sleep. With my old G5 iMac, I had to prop a book up over it or I would be kept awake.

Good times. Good times.

I bought an iMac as an early Christmas present for my family and the first thing my little brother asked was if it would breathe while sleeping like my iBook. :)

Finally I have arrived.....
When I use my MBP in the clamshell mode, that sleep light keeps on (not blinking like in the actual sleep mode, though). My PBs' sleep lights were off when I use them in the clamshell mode.
Do you know the reason why Apple made a change on MBP on that light?

I guess its to indicate that the laptop is running in clamshell mode and not sleeping or switched off.
